Time to Try Tostones!

Introduction:

The Dominican Republic is full of delicious foods. Dominicans mainly eat rice (arroz), bananas and beans (habichuelas). It is very rare for me to eat a meal here that does not consist of these three foods! There are many other Dominican dishes here, such as la bandera ("the flag"), which consisits of rice, beans, meat and vegtables. There are also the famous dishes of salami and tostones (fried bananas), mangu (mashed bananas, which is very similar to mashed potatoes), and sancocho (Dominican soup). They also enjoy drinking pineapple and coconut juice, and for dessert, dulce de coco (sweet coconut). The food is very different to what I eat in the United States, but it is still delicious. In this article, I am going to focus on sharing with you the Dominican popular side dish known as tostones!

What food did I try?:

Tostones, which are fried bananas, can be found in every Domincan restaurant and home. When you go out to eat in the United States, it is common to get a side of French fries. Here in the Dominican Republic, the main side dish is tostones! People here even eat them with ketchup, just as you would eat French fries in the United States.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I first tried tostones when I went to the beach, and I fell in love with the taste.
