A Visit to Sensoji Temple

Photos

Sensoji's famous "Kaminarimon": 'kaminari' means 'thunder' and 'mon' means gate, so this is the Thunder Gate!
A close-up of Kaminarimon's giant red lantern. A whole person can stand under it!
There are many beautiful pagodas at temples all around Japan, just like this one!
The subway was pretty empty this morning, because it wasn't a weekday. Rush hour in Tokyo can be crowded!
The shopping street leading up to Sensoji temple. I arrived early so many of the shops were closed still.
This is a giant straw sandal called "owaraji". If bad guys see this, they're supposed to be scared of the size of the person who could wear this sandal!
This gate is less famous than Kaminarimon, but still very large and brightly colored!
From the temple, you can see another Tokyo landmark in the distance: the Skytree, Tokyo's tallest building!
