I found my love for space science with a visit to the Kennedy Space Center in Orlando, Florida. This experience made me realize how much there is up in space to still explore. I've even been told by many to go try and be an astronaut. But for now, I am focused on studying astronomy.
Astronomy is the study of space and everything in it. There are many different paths you can go on in this major at my school. There is the astrophysics path, the space science track and many others that are very specific. My track is all about understanding stars and galaxies, including the math and physics behind it all. I specifically incorporate chemistry into my studies because I aim to be an atmospheric chemist, someone who studies the chemistry around stars, planets, black holes and such.
In this major, there are a lot of physics and math classes. I definitely prefer the math classes. Along with physics classes, though, I do physics labs. That's where the fun happens. I get to do some cool projects and studies, such as making different circuits to turn on a colored light bulb or making electrical circuits to produce physics data points. In math class, I do many complex problems that look really long and hard.
