Buon Appetito!

Introduction:

Gelato! Everyone loves it, and it is a must after any meal and during any time of the day. Whether that be during the day, making a much-needed pit stop after a long day of exploring and sightseeing, enjoying the decadent treat while slowly strolling along the cobblestone streets (known in Italy as 'La passeggiata') of Rome, or after a delicious traditional Italian dinner to cap off your night. Did you know that Italians are extremely particular about how their gelato is made and how it tastes? Gelato is an integral part of Italian culture. It is considered a beloved tradition, a social event, and one of the symbols of Italian craftsmanship.

What food did I try?:

I tried gelato, or ice cream, from Gelateria Fassi, Italy's oldest gelato maker in the heart of Rome. The gelato shop was founded in 1880 by Giovanni Fassi, and to this day, after being passed down through five generations, the gelato shop is a must-visit for tourists and a staple to the community for the locals. Giovanni Fassi and his gelato creations were so well known that even before opening up his own gelato shop, he became an apprentice pastry chef and ice cream maker at the Royal House for King Vittorio Emanuele III, earning himself the name and reputation as the "Sovereign Ice Cream Maker". The gelato shop is considered by locals and tourists alike as the best Gelato in Rome.
