みなさん、おはよ(mina-san, ohayo). Hello, everyone! I am Ember Chandler, and I am writing from a town called Nisshin located in Nagoya, Japan.
I come from a small town in South Georgia called Blackshear, a place known for the famous Okefenokee Swamp. Ancestors in my family were some of the first settlers here, and you can tour my sixth-great uncle Obediah Barbe’s house when you visit. The town also has alligators and big cypress trees that grow in the water. People like to put the mud from this swamp on their skin to make it soft. How cool is that?
I grew up in a very poor household, and I am the first person in my family to graduate high school or go to college. I never dreamed I would get to go to Japan, but thanks to my college, Georgia Southern University, I was able to take part in an exchange. An exchange means that my school let me go to study at another school all the way over in Japan. Here, in Nissin, I learn all about Japan and its language, and I go on adventures to fun places to learn about Japanese history.
