Hello explorers! It's Tim, and I'm excited to share that I have arrived safely in Cape Town, South Africa. The journey from my home in Chicago to Cape Town was a long one, but after months and months of planning, I am happy for this adventure to be officially underway.
I spent my final days in Chicago squeezing all of my gear into my bags and getting the COVID-19 test that you need to travel between countries these days. Have you had a COVID-19 test? I felt like the nurse was tickling my brain through my nose! I am vaccinated and boosted against COVID, but I also carefully wore my mask and stayed away from everyone except my family in the weeks leading up to my departure. Thankfully, my test results were negative. Whew!
On Sunday, I triple-checked my bags (passport, vaccine card, Weddell Seal stuffed animal... check!) and took a cab to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. I love going to the airport. It is the gateway to the rest of the world. I arrived at the gate just in time to see my airplane pulling in. It had just landed after an overnight flight from Tokyo, Japan. Some weary-eyed travelers got off the plane, ready for their adventures in Chicago, and after a few minutes, I boarded the plane, ready for my adventures.
