Have you ever moved? Started at a new school? A new class? Had to get to know new teachers? New friends? It can be really scary and overwhelming! You might think about your words and your actions more than normal, or you might just feel really nervous. Moving to a new country is just like that. When I moved to Germany, I could barely speak any German, and I didn't know a single person. I felt overwhelmed and nervous, but also excited. Starting over is a wonderfully scary mix of those feelings. I felt so free because I could do anything I wanted to do. I felt independent, strong and brave. However, I felt incapable at the same time, as if I wasn't prepared and didn't have the skills or knowledge I needed to survive so far away from everything I knew and from everyone I loved.

What do you do when you feel nervous or like you don't know what to do? I normally find out all the important information I need to learn/know and then spend time figuring out the answers. That way, when I enter a new situation, I will feel more prepared. I also tend to make friends and ask for help when I need it. Not only are people generally helpful and nice all over the world, but making those new connections is also a great way to integrate into a new community.
