Last week, I got to visit and tour Buckingham Palace, home of the Queen of England. This was a very special opportunity because the palace is only open to visitors around two weeks out of every year. Visitors are not allowed when the queen is at home, but every year she takes a two-week vacation to Scotland.
Unfortunately, photos and videos were not allowed in the palace itself, but I did take some pictures of the outside of the palace and the surrounding gardens.
The inside of the palace was very grand. The color scheme was red, white and gold. There were a lot of paintings on display, many of which were created by students at the Royal Drawing School that was created by the Prince of Wales. There were also many amazing items on display that had been given to the British monarchy over time as gifts from the rulers of other countries. It was really cool to walk through the palace and learn about the history of the British monarchy as well as the other countries that they engaged with over time.
Outside of the palace, there was a ceremony called the Changing of the Guards. This is a very exciting ceremony to watch. There are guards placed right outside of the palace to protect it at all times. One guard cannot stand there all day, so they have to switch out with other guards.
