Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listen to a mix of English and Spanish music with my friends. In Spanish, some of my favorite songs are Te Vi, Calma and Pelo Suelto.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I had the amazing opportunity to see some friends from my school dance in the National Festival of Culture and Arts this weekend. It was a two-hour long showcase of folkloric and traditional dances from Mexico in one of the lush gardens in the center of the city. It had everything from indigenous dances to regional specialties to modern-day interpretive and hip-hop dancing. It was incredible to see the history of the country reflected through its diverse dances.

What did I read this week?:

I have been reading a book called El alquimista, or The Alchemist, that my host mom lent me. It's a story about a sheep herder from Spain who goes on a journey to Egypt to discover his leyenda personal, or destiny. It's been an great read that has come to me at a very important time in my life, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far!

What games or sports did I play this week?:

Lotería is a card game very similar to bingo that has tabletas, or game cards, filled with illustrations. You have to cover them in a row to match cards that get called out by the game master. It's common to use uncooked beans or pieces of tortillas as chips to cover the pictures you have on your game card. If you fill a row, you shout ¡Buenas! or "Good!" and win that round!
