South African Food!

I began to add different spices to it, such as pepper, honey or sugar, and it made the dish more enjoyable.

How is the food prepared?:

Have you ever made grits in the States? It is prepared very similarly to grits. You boil the grain until the water is all boiled out. After it cools you warm up spoiled milk and pour it into your bowl of grain! Now you have some good ole umngqusho!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

The Xhosa people eat a variety of grains due to their low cost. My host mama informed me that grainy food such as umquosho keeps you full for longer periods. It is also inexpensive to buy these types of foods in bulk.
