Tropic Like its Hot!

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

A few major challenges faced by the people living in this tropical environment are mudslides and floods during the rainy season, droughts and heatstrokes in the heat of the dry season, hurricanes and tsunamis coming from the coasts, and, of course, volcanic activity!

Volcanic activity is pretty constant in Costa Rica, especially since it is part of the Ring of Fire. Costa Rica has more than 200 volcanic formations and boasts six "active" volcanoes. Active here does not include the other 90 something formations that show minor activity. Volcan Poás actually just erupted around 2:00 AM on the 11th of February!

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

People here adapted to the environment in many ways throughout the years, the most recent of which includes using the nearly constant wind as an energy source. Another way has been to showcase the natural beauty of this country through tourism, which allows the Ticos a way to make money and teach travelers how important the ecosystems and nature are here.
