On Saturday, we saw citizens walking around and celebrating the prospect of Catalonian independence by spending time with families, dancing in the streets, and showing their pride by wearing the Catalonian flag. On Sunday, we saw the same thing - but instead, it was a festival of over 300,000 locals who had come out in the Barcelona streets to celebrate their opinion that Spain should stay together. They were wearing the Spanish flag.
This was a very humbling experience to be a part of. I felt like, despite their differences, the locals in the area lived with one another very peacefully and respectfully. Never during the two protests did anyone get hurt, or show any form of violence towards others. Something else that caught my attention was that everyone seemed so happy and proud to wear the flags that they supported! YThis was very heartwarming and nice to experience, especially because of all of the negative media and attention that Catalonia has been receiving. In the reality that I experienced, there were also positive aspects that the media failed to mention.
