They are often very curious to find out more about what I'm doing in Germany, and we engage in some small talk in order to get to know each other better. Since I'm still improving my German language skills and sometimes need a moment to find the right words to express myself, I find myself grateful that Germans do not find pauses in conversation to be especially awkward!
