Meat is expensive here and most families eat very small amounts, compared to families in the U.S. What do you think about this?
Issues of unemployment and drought are challenging for sure, but Moroccans survive and thrive on the generosity of their neighbors and family. It is only through sharing meals, sharing kindness and always being willing to embrace and help that the people of Morocco are able to survive. Actually, every single day, I see someone stopping everything to offer a hand to someone else, strangers, tourists ... everyone. Moroccans are famous for this characteristic. I have been told that not only is it a part of their religion (Islam), but it also comes from their Amazigh (sounds like Ahmah-zir) nomadic culture. Some people in Morocco are still nomadic, in the Sahara, so this value is very much a part of the culture. Without water from a friend along the way, a nomad would not last long. Just imagine if everyone showed this kindness towards each other, just acting as a help along the way.
