Getting to Know the Ancient Ginkgo Tree

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Ginkgos grow really well in Paris and other places with cold winters and hot summers. One reason they are often planted in cities is that they deal well with urban pollution. This explains why I saw such a healthy ginkgo growing on the sidewalk, right next to a busy roadway. Not all trees do so well in unhealthy environments like cities.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

This tree has very few enemies and not a lot that can harm it. Considering that it has been planted successfully all over the world, it is unlikely to go extinct. But that’s only in cities. With climate change and so much loss of forests worldwide, some people are concerned about losing the wild ginkgos in China. Like many "living fossils," they are worth protecting.
