Music in Chile is just as an important part of the culture as huasos (cowboys), the Andes mountains and the dance of cueca. It is not just any specific music, either. It is almost all music. From my experiences here, loving music goes hand-in-hand with breathing here in Chile. It is here where I have managed to finally go to my first concert!
According a poll from an archive of metal and rock bands, Chile has the most fans of rock and metal out of all the countries in Latin America. I would say, from my experience, that is very true! There are so many original bands of rock, metal, punk and especially folk music here in Chile. People love to wear shirts with their favorite bands, and even the most dedicated have some tattoos on their arms.
A historical Chilean rock band is Los Bunkers. I am planning on trying to see them in April. They are known to sound similar to The Beatles, but they also like to play folk music. They are well-known, as they have been playing since 1999 and still tour to this day! They have been known to play at Lollapalooza, a very big and famous music festival, both here in Chile and the United States. They are very popular all over the world!
Another historical figure in Chilean music, but more known to Chile itself, is Victor Jara.
