History: Québécois French is based on 17th and 18th century Parisian French because that is when the Europeans sent Parisians to live in “la Nouvelle France,” which is modern-day Québec.
Comparison: Les Québécois and les Français understand each other's writing, since they use the same basic grammatical rules and standard French. However, due to Québec's history, their spoken French is different from the French spoken in France. Quebec French borrows English words due to its proximity to English-speaking regions, whereas France French uses fewer English words. One thing that I have noticed is that les Français have a hard time understanding the Québécois, but les Québécois can understand les Français. My friend mentioned that it is because "the Français use "standard French," whereas the Québécois use many unique expressions and shorten words to speak faster.
Examples: In Quebec, "Magasiner" is the verb that means "to go shopping," whereas in France, you would say "faire du shopping".
