It also shares borders with Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador! Just in Colombia, I have traveled over 5,000 kilometers in total (around 3,000 miles--like driving coast to coast in the USA) to visit many different ecosystems here. Whenever you drive anywhere here, you go up and down a lot. So many mountains!
To get to Bucaramanga, I drove in a car that I borrowed. It was a little scary to drive on the very thin road with many big trucks. Sometimes when I travel more near to towns close to Barichara, I can take a chiva or a tuc tuc! The chiva is my favorite because they play loud music!
To get to Bucaramanga, I had to drive down into the huge Chicamocha Canyon and back up to the other side. I loved seeing the Chicamocha Canyon full of clouds. It is the second biggest canyon by volume in the world! Can you guess the biggest. (Hint: it is very grand!)
Every day when I go to get groceries or visit friends, I do a lot of walking in Barichara. The streets are very steep and the town is very small so I can get almost every where I need to by foot if I don't mind breaking a sweat! Every single time I leave my house, I see someone that I recognize. This is a very different experience from traveling around in a day in New York City. I really like it.
