This past March 28th, Costa Rica was scheduled to play against Panama in a soccer match. Of course, the sports fanatics in our study abroad program started bombarding our group chat the month before, already chattering and excited for us all to go. Although I am completely clueless about sports myself, even less so about soccer, I decided that this would be a great opportunity to experience the spirit of the country— as many of you all may know, soccer,or futbol is a very popular sport in many Latin American countries! My two older brothers loved watching soccer while I was growing up. Many of my friends were also really familiar with soccer, so I knew I wouldn’t be completely confused on the day of the game. With that being said, our whole group hopped on board with the idea of going, and our local study-abroad coordinator went ahead and arranged transportation and tickets for us! Each ticket cost 13,000 (13 mil) colones, which is about $25.

On the day of the game, we all hopped in our van at four in the afternoon. The funny thing was that our study- abroad coordinators were huge soccer fans as well, so they had invited four of their friends to travel in our tiny little van.
