More importantly, the trip gave me time to reflect on the path that brought me here. When I first arrived at Baylor, I was certain I wanted to become an attorney. However, after volunteering in an English as a Second Language course, I discovered a new passion. I began seeking out opportunities to work with immigrant communities and spent a lot of time teaching English. Those experiences ultimately led me to pursue a Fulbright and shaped the direction of my future.
Next year, I will begin my master’s degree in International Migration and Refugees, and I hope to continue working abroad after that.
If there is one thing this experience has taught me, it is this: do not limit yourself. The path you think you are meant to follow might change, and that is okay. Be open to new experiences, even the ones that scare you. You never know where they might lead or how much they might change you for the better.
To conclude, I want to thank Ms. Merrell, who has been one of the most impactful teachers I have ever had. From agreeing to advise Model UN to giving me the opportunity to share this experience with all of you, she has gone above and beyond in her support. She is truly an incredible teacher and an even more remarkable person.
If you have any questions about Fulbright or anything else, please let me know! I hope to stay in touch with you all!
