Earlier this week, there was a warning that Box Jellyfish (the most deadly jellyfish in the world!) had been spotted on some of the eastern beaches here! My daughter, Lizzy, and I went to see if we could spot one because she wants to be a Marine Biologist and this was fascinating to her! We did not find any, but we did find hundreds of the most peculiar sea creatures all over the black volcanic rocks along the shore! I still haven't figured out what they were.
Have you ever heard of the dodo bird? It was a very large, wingless bird, similar to an ostrich. It was endemic to Mauritius, which was once uninhabited by people. Sadly, when European settlers landed on the island in the 1500's, they began hunting the dodo bird for food, resulting in its extinction less than one hundred years later. I sure wish I could have seen one!
