I’ve received many questions about the differences between the cities I’ve lived in, and this journal is my way of reflecting on how daily life, people and culture have shaped me in different places. Instead of comparing many capitals, I want to focus on three cities I know through lived experience:  Bogotá, where I grew up; Fairfax, Virginia, where I began college; and Paris, where I am currently spending my year abroad.

Although these places are very different, each one represents an important stage of my life.

My daily life has changed completely with each move.

In Bogotá, I lived with my mom until I was 18. My days followed a routine: going from home to school and back, usually by car because traffic and safety made public transportation difficult. Most of my time was spent with my family. Bogotá is a large and overwhelming city, so people often limit how much they move around and focus on where they truly need to go.

In Fairfax, everything changed.
