Farewell Journal: One Last Message from Japan

Ask your parents or grandparents to tell you a story about their childhood. Volunteer for something you’ve never done before. You’re still writing your own story and every chapter begins with you being brave enough to turn the page.

When I first met you all and started sharing these journal entries, I never imagined how much joy this would bring me. You’ve reminded me what it’s like to see the world with wonder, to be endlessly curious and to believe that anything is possible.

The Gilman Scholarship helped make this dream a reality for me, and I’ll always be grateful for that. But it was my choice to apply, to try and to leap into the unknown. One day, you’ll get the chance to do the same. When that time comes, I hope you go for it with all your heart.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I believe in every single one of you. Go out and make your own adventures and write your own journal entries someday. Who knows? Maybe one of you will be the next person sending stories back from a faraway place.

Until then, ありがとう (arigatou) and goodbye for now.

With gratitude and hope,
Kragen
