Before I arrived in Paris, I decided that one of the most important things for me to do would be to try to learn French, the language the majority of people speak here. It seemed that this would be a good way to feel more comfortable and at home in my new city. I would communicate much better with people and maybe even understand some of their jokes!
I signed up for a French language class and for the last two weeks I have been going to the classes after work. I knew some French already from high school, but I have trouble understanding people since they speak so fast! The first time the class met I was very nervous. I was not alone though---there are people in my class from all over the world living in Paris as well and trying to learn French.
Over the last two weeks I notice that I am improving! My teacher Chloé speaks to us only in French so that we can practice listening. She also gives helpful handouts to teach us about grammar. Soon I hope to be able to start a conversation with anyone!
