Food in Ecuador!

One of my favorite street foods, mote, which is boiled, peeled corn kernels often topped with meat and ají (a type of hot sauce), is quite common here and throughout the Andes. Furthermore, the frutería (fruit stand) is one of my favorite places in the entire city. We are inundated with cheap and fresh produce. My cantón (county) has regions in both La Sierra and La Costa, so I can get tropical fruits like bananas (18 bananas for $1!) as well as Sierran produce like carrots, corn, and potatoes as well.
