The day started out sunny and warm, but in the afternoon it got chilly and there was sleet. I was shocked! We're not in rainy season right now and haven't seen a drop of rain in almost two months. I guess it's never completely safe to walk around without an umbrella.
This week I saw lots of dogs hanging out around my neighborhood. The street dogs here almost all have owners, but during the day they are allowed to walk around as they please. It's fun to see them, especially since I've been missing my pets at home, but I never pet them. Once I saw an adorable dog rolling around in the carcass of a dead bird just as I was contemplating making friends with it. If my dog at home did that, he would get a bath for sure!
The coolest thing I saw in nature this week was a tree. The tree itself wasn't remarkable, but it was filled with birds making a symphony of joyous noises! I couldn't see the birds themselves though, unfortunately. I wish I had seen them so that I could better identify them.
When my family came and visited over the holidays, my sister was bitten by a tick and got Lyme disease, which is a bacterial infection spread to humans by ticks. She took medicine and is fine now, but untreated Lyme disease can cause chronic fatigue and pain. One of the downsides to not having a winter season is that the bugs never die. I still get a mosquito bite or two every week.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the word "mosquito" is Spanish?
