A Taste of Spain

Introduction:

Food is very important in Spain and people often eat together. Unlike in the United States, people in Spain typically have a very small breakfast or only a small amount of coffee to start the day. Lunch is the most important meal of the day for Spanairds. Students, employees, and friends will meet up to eat large meals in the afternoon. Here, dinner is eaten at a much later time, anywhere from 7pm-10pm. Families and friends eat long dinners and spend lots of time talking. 

Since arriving in Spain, I have tried many new foods! Some of these have been very traditional to certain parts of Spain. Others have been foods that you may find in countries across the world, from Mexico to the United States.

What food did I try?:

At the beginning of my journey, I tried many foods typical to southern Spain because I was traveling around a lot! Here in Madrid, I have eaten breakfast and dinner every day with my host family and my roommate. This means that I have gotten to try different meals every day. 

In southern Spain, in a town called Cabo de Palos, I tried caldero, a rice dish made with fish, as well as sorbete de limón, a lemon sorbet inside of a lemon! In Madrid with my host family, I have tried patatas a la riojana, which is a Spanish stew with chorizo meat, potatoes, and peppers.
