How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A lot of people drink bottled water since the tap water can get polluted sometimes, but it's generally safe. One bottle of water costs around 150 Serbian dinar, or 1.50 dollars. Prices are going up in Serbia because of the pandemic and Russian immigration, so a bottle of water used to cost a lot less.

What was the best meal this week?:

In Serbia, there is an abundance of local food and freshly-squeezed juice. I love raspberry and strawberry juice, which I had never tried before arriving here. This week, my favorite meal was a delicious gyros, which is a popular fast-food sandwich made of pita bread, tzatziki sauce, onion, tomato, French fries and meat cut from a vertical rotisserie. While gyros is a Greek food, you can find these sandwiches sold on every street corner in Serbia. They usually cost around 500 dinar, or five United States dollars.

What music did I listen to this week?:

Serbia loves the 1980s, so most of the music played in the mall, coffee shops or restaurants is from this time period. But traditional Serbian music is beautiful, and usually includes bagpipes, flutes, horns, drums and cymbals! Below is an example of a Serbian folk song that could be played at wedding or celebration.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This week, I started a creative writing club with my friend. I love writing poetry and reading novels, and it was so fun to meet with writers and hear their writing.
