A band was playing a variety of instruments, such as the fiddle, piano, drums, accordion and flute, in the front of the room, and two dance instructors were in the middle. Even with the instructions being given in Danish, my friends were able to follow along and learn the steps as they were repetitive and closely followed the music. And, since the dances require partners, we met a few Danish locals that kindly translated for us once the workshop turned into an open dance floor! We weren’t sure what we were doing as we danced, but everyone was willing to show us. Near the end, everyone joined together for large group dances with smiles and laughter all around. It was clear that these dances are taught proudly and enjoyed from generation to generation.
