Nature News

Most exciting were the white rhinos, which sadly have to be protected by armed rangers 24 hours a day from poachers. The mother and baby let us stand a safe distance and watch them. It was so amazing, they are beautiful!

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

The white rhinos were the most amazing thing I saw this week, because they are endangered. I am afraid there may be no more rhinos, or elephants, in my lifetime if people are not careful. Poaching for ivory or bushmeat is often done because people in the region are starving and have no other way to survive. Conservation groups are now doing a better job working with local villages to employ men and women so they have a way to make money off of nature sustainably. That way, we can experience the long term value of healthy living animals.

Other Nature News from this week:

A sneaky family of vervet monkeys tried to take off with my sunscreen, which they thought was food. While I was distracted with one monkey, others came in and stole some more! So, I gave up and brought my bike box into my room before they started stealing bike parts I didn't have replacements for.
