Finland's Independence Day

Every year on this date, it is essential for Finns to celebrate their independence since they did not obtain it too long ago. Before 1917, either Sweden or Russia commonly ruled the country. They take significant pride in their country and spend this day celebrating.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

After the Finns obtained their independence, they could connect more to the environment and continue the environmental practices they so value. They have been able to protect their local forests and lakes, preserving the natural beauty of their country.

Besides their physical environment, this tradition allows Finns to connect to their cultural environment and community. They can come together with friends and family to watch the parade and watch the President and their partner shaking hands with all of the guests attending the ball. While watching, Finns bake traditional pastries known as joulutorttu, drink warmed fruit juice and chat with friends and family throughout this day and at the parties they attend. Some Finns watch traditional Finnish movies afterward as a nice way to wrap up the day of celebration with some relaxation. I did all of this with my friends from Finland, and it was great to celebrate this holiday with those who have been celebrating it their whole life.
