Opportunities for Incoming Undergraduates!

Journal Entry:

Right as you leave high school, the world opens up a whole lot. As you gain your independence, you start to realize that a lot of life is truly what you make of it. In many ways, that is rad as heck! In some other ways, however, it can be a bit overwhelming to orient yourself in a direction toward success.

One of the most helpful resources for me as a starting undergraduate was simply my professors. At the end of an especially interesting lecture, I would go up to the professor and just let them know I thought it was really intriguing. The number of opportunities and invaluable mentorship you can receive by just showing that you care is immense. So while it may be tempting to head for the door when class ends, it might just be worth your while to stick around and have a quick chat!

Further, most universities will have departments or offices dedicated to student success. Depending on what you are looking for specifically, and which university you attend, these helpful folks can go by many different names.  However, I'll try to go through some. If you are looking to travel abroad, make sure to visit or contact your university's Office of International Education. If you are looking to advance your career prospects, the Office of Career Development might be the right place to be!
