Hien told me that she feels "it was the right decision." "If we teach with our heart, we can help many people. I like to make a difference in my students' lives." In addition, Ms. Hien said the classroom makes her feel youthful and energized. "Teaching is a way to make you younger. That's why I don't look very old at my age." Ms. Hien's favorite aspect of teaching is when her students feel happy at the end of a lesson. She stated, "I like when my students are satisfied with what they have learned in class." On the contrary, "if students are not satisfied with what they have learned in class, I feel frustrated."
Ms. Hien would like students in the United States to know that Vietnamese students "love English very much and can use the language effectively when communicating with people." She would like to figure out a way to connect students in the United States and Vietnam. It would certainly be a valuable cultural exchange. Ms. Hien has a question for the fourth graders of PS/MS 200 in Queens, New York: "Which country would you most like to visit and why?" Ms. Hien would love to meet you all someday!
Lastly, I would like to note that Ms. Hien celebrated Teachers' Day in Vietnam by singing her heart out during karaoke at our dinner party. She has a beautiful voice. Thank you for everything, Ms. Hien. You are a special woman and a great teacher!
