Costa Ricans take their time preparing food because this is apart of "Tico" culture. They don't rush the process. At the center, we pick, wash and cut most of our fresh produce. Last week, we harvested kale, scallions, carrots and cucmbers from our greenhouse and fermented them using salt and water. One interesting thing about Costa Rican cuisine is that they dont make their food very spicy. Unlike other countries in Central America, Costa Ricans prefer their food more mild.
Most food in Costa Rica is locally grown. Specifically, coffee and bananas are connected to Costa Rican history. Costa Rica has been growing these crops since its creation! Do any of you guys participate in a community garden? It's cool to think about where our food comes from. The next time you eat dinner, try and identify which country or place the ingredients came from!
