Mrs. Karen gets around in her car. She has to travel a lot because of her work. On a normal week, she drives two minutes to campus, but also two and a half hours to Rabat. She has also used taxis and the train to get around. Her husband uses his bike to get around everywhere.
Mrs. Karen typically wears American clothing, but she has worn a djellaba and a takchita. A djellaba is a Moroccan robe that has a hood on it. You can't wear tennis shoes with djellabas. She wears a takchita when she attends a Moroccan wedding. Takchitas are sparkly and have two layers, so it gets really hot when you wear them. And also, when she has to meet the King of Morocco or administer a wedding, she wears her black robe that has the collar like a priest.
In her free time, Mrs. Karen likes to go for a run with her dogs, read books and watch movies. She also enjoys drinking coffee or Moroccan tea at a cafe or at home with friends.
Mrs. Karen speaks three languages: English, Arabic and French. She learned English in the United States, and started learning French in the United States at the age of 13. She then lived in Burkina Faso and France, both French-speaking countries, which helped develop her French. She learned Arabic in Morocco. She had an Arabic tutor for two years.
