Welcome to Heather's Journey to Greenland!

I am married to my best friend and life partner, Marc; and we have two sons, William and Winston. William is 14 and in the Eighth Grade. Winston is 12 and in the Sixth Grade. I miss them so much and wish they were here with me in Greenland. Luckily, I can connect with them using technology tools. Here’s a challenge for you: See if you can find out how I have a satellite signal here in the Arctic. I’ll give you a hint: This is pretty brand-new!

I have two cats. They are both Maine Coon cats. Think about these two words, “Maine” and “Coon.” Does that help you imagine what my cats look like? Moshi is one-and-a-half years old. Little John is seven years old. Little John is not very little; he weighs 16 pounds. I named him after the character in the Disney movie “Robin Hood.” They both get very annoyed when I travel away from home because they miss me. Sometimes they poop on the floor to show how annoyed they are. Do you have a pet? Does your pet get annoyed when you go away?

My hobby is doing anything with kids. I love to be with kids and I love having adventures with kids. I also love to be a host. Every Saturday, I host an event called “potluck.” Do you know what a potluck is? It is a type of social gathering where everyone has to bring a dish to share with each other. Get it? “Pot” + “Luck!” You never know what you will eat, but it is always so good.

I have never been to a polar region before. To get here, I took a plane from Washington, DC to Reykjavík, Iceland. We flew overnight. It was so beautiful when the sun came up over the North Atlantic Ocean. I could not believe my eyes. Then, I got on board an amazing ship and we began our journey to Greenland.
