While I was not able to see many animals on my trip, I did see two small pigeons walking around. Can you find them? I’ll show you where they are on the last page! I was also able to see an Oriental Magpie, which is the official city bird of Seoul.
While it was a tiring walk up the mountain to get to Namsan Tower, I felt very calm walking through the trees and flowers, especially when I compared it to the busy city below. When I reached the higher points, I saw the foggy pollution in the air and felt a bit concerned. The contrast between the peaceful natural environment and the visible effects of the city made me think deeply about humans’ connection and responsibility to nature.
As for the birds, I got extremely excited when I saw them since I haven’t been able to find many animals in Seoul. Being able to see Seoul’s official bird felt like nature provided me with a complete experience, and I am grateful I got the chance to record it.
These plants, trees and birds live not only on Namsan Mountain but all around Seoul. However, because Namsan Mountain provides much better environment than the center of Seoul, it is a much better place to explore and fully appreciate South Korea’s nature. Still, being influenced by urban conditions, pollution and human presence affect these natural places in a noticeable way.
