My Journeys Around Africa

Senegal also has many baobab trees, as well as palm trees due to its location near the ocean.

While in Senegal, we also learned about a traditional art technique that only belongs to Senegal as an attempt to preserve the art form. The paintings are actually created with a mix of powders of differing colors that stick to a design done by the artist on a wooden board with a glue-like mixture. These powders, when layered on top of each other, create these beautiful, intricately detailed paintings. They are absolutely beautiful!

Thank you all again for your kindness, generocity and willingness to learn throughout this experience. I hope I have been able to teach you all about a culture different from the U.S. and show you how perceptions of foreign countries that we have in the U.S. are not always accurate to real life. I hope you take what you have learned along with you throughout the rest of your time this semester and throughout your schooling.

Go siame (goodbye)!
