To arrive in London, I first flew from Seattle to Iceland, and then Iceland to London. While waiting for the next flight, I felt as cold as Iceland actually was; I was going to a brand-new country and knew nobody. I was having trouble sleeping on the plane too, so I would arrive jetlagged, and without knowing anyone.

Before I went to my school, I had a four-day orientation in the middle of London, where I met with other students from the United States who are also on a Fulbright Scholarship. I’m part of about 50 students who are from all over the U.S., who are doing really interesting research projects all over the United Kingdom. It was nice getting to meet people who were similar to me, even if it only was for a few days. I met someone from Bellingham, Washington, and she knew one of my friends that I went to elementary school with! The world is small.

We all went out to dinner and had Indian food one night. So delicious. London has tasty Indian food.

But then, just as things started to feel comfortable, and I was making friends… all of us left to go to our universities, to start our degrees and our research. I was traveling over to the southeastern side of London to a borough named Greenwich.
