I took a large bus from Iringa to Dar Es Salaam and back. During the week (while in Iringa) I used the Bajajii (taxis) to get to and from the market. I also took a trip on the Dala Dala (mini bus) to the mountains outside of Iringa and visited the University of Iringa, which was full of trees and overlooked the valley.
The most interesting place I traveled to this week was a basket-weaving compound where I learned how to weave baskets from straw reeds. The women there were very skilled and were able to teach me how to weave my own basket! It was very hard to get the straw to tie together, yet they made it look easy!
This week I got to visit the village of Chief Mkawa, who was a famous revolutionary during the formation of Tanzania. I was able to walk through his home and meet some of his great descendants. It was an honor to be able to experience this part of history.
