I really enjoyed having the opportunity to do some Halloween shopping! Though Halloween is not traditionally celebrated in Serbia, and many Serbs do not celebrate the holiday, you can still find costumes available in select stores across the city. I went a little crazy and purchased a few different Halloween costumes and decorations as I am hoping to host a Halloween party in my apartment with some of my new friends. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I have been excitedly counting down the days until it arrives, especially since it falls on a weekend this year. I was putting a countdown to Halloween on the whiteboard of my university classes, but was informed by a student that many Serbs tend to celebrate their own holiday on that day: St. Luke's Day (Lučindan). Saint Luke is an important Christian figure remembered as a physician, one of the early apostles, and the author of two books of the New Testament. He is also traditionally credited with creating the first religious icons, making him a patron saint of medical professionals and artists. In Serbia, his feast day, is celebrated as a family patron saint day (Krsna Slava).
