Student Program, I traveled again to Argentina to study the Mapuzugun language and the different strategies that people use to teach and learn the language. I am currently based in the city of Esquel, Chubut, a small city of about 45,000 people in the foothills of the southern Andes mountains. As an anthropologist, I conduct ethnography, which means that I immerse myself in the city’s everyday life, not only to observe other people, but to be a part of it myself. I attend language classes, go to concerts, eat at local restaurants and talk to as many people as possible to learn about their lives and experiences. I also go on lots of hikes and adventures in the mountains!
Through all of these experiences, I investigate the importance of the Mapuche culture and language in Argentina today. I am excited for you to join me on my journey!
