Antarctic Wildlife: Creatures of the Deep

When we go back to the Antarctic it will be to search for the wreck of the Endurance. This was the ship of Sir Ernest Shackleton that was crushed and sunk by the ice in 1915. It is the most famous undiscovered shipwreck in the world. Everybody wants to know what she is like–but equally, many also want to know what life it holds.

The thing is, the Endurance is at just over 3000 meters (10,000 feet), and that is deep–very deep. And more than that, it is the only wreck to exist under a permanent shield of pack ice. We know more about the surface of the moon than we know about the bottom of the Weddell Sea. My guess would be that, on this vast abyssal plain, the Endurance will be an oasis brimming with life. What that life will be, however, is a mystery. But come with me on this amazing adventure and maybe, together, we will find out!
