Farewell and Good Luck!

It was where I discovered a passion for science and what inspired my first steps into healthcare. I hope this glimpse into my life has been meaningful. Many of us share similar career paths, and I hope you recognize how varied the experiences along the way can be.

If a two-year commitment like the Peace Corps feels daunting, there are plenty of other ways to gain meaningful experience living and working abroad. Many colleges offer international exchange programs, student organizations (such as Global Brigades) and scholarships that make it possible to explore the world while building valuable skills. I encourage you to connect with your academic advisors or counselors. They can help you discover such opportunities!

Living abroad in a community and culture wholly different from Oceanside, California, has made me a more empathetic, understanding and confident person. I’m proud of what I’ve contributed here and I’m excited to carry these skills into my future in healthcare and into my daily life.

I’ll close with a line from a close friend that has stayed with me: “Life is short, but it can be deep if we have courage and compassion.”
