Smoke, Fire and Five Courses: A Chef Unk Adventure in Prague

Pull up a chair, because Chef Unk is taking you along for this five-course adventure!

What food did I try?:

Alright, my fellow food explorers, grab your imaginary forks! We're about to travel through five courses of food, and trust me, this wasn't your ordinary dinner.

Course One: A Colorful Beginning

First up was something called burrata. Now, imagine a ball of fresh Italian cheese that looks like mozzarella on the outside but when you cut into it, there's a soft, creamy center waiting inside. That's burrata!

But the chef didn't stop there. Our burrata was served with smoked olive oil and tiny pearls of pimento caviar. Now, don't let the word caviar fool you! In this case, we're talking about little pearls of pepper flavor, not fish eggs.

Here's a little chef science for you! Molecular gastronomy explores how science can transform food. One technique, called spherification, can turn flavorful liquids into tiny, caviar-like pearls that burst in your mouth. The menu doesn't tell us exactly how these particular pearls were made, but isn't that a cool way to play with food?

There were also crunchy pine nuts, cashews, almonds, cherry tomatoes, basil and something called gazpacho, a chilled Spanish-style vegetable soup. There was even a dusting of black olives! Think about that combination. Creamy cheese, crunchy nuts, refreshing vegetables and a little smokiness, all sharing one plate.

And just like that, our first clue appeared: Italian and Spanish food traditions had found their way to a dinner table in Prague!

Course Two: Wait... We're Eating What!?

Next came beef tartare.
