A Chat with a Wrestler

[The house in which I interviewed Laye was very nice and was decorated with bright colors and images of religious figures. We were sitting in the house so it would have been weird to talk about it. But I have included some pictures so you can get an idea.]

What is your family like?:

Diender is a lot like Yoff [This the area where I live!]. Both these communities are Lebou (an ethnic group) and at the heart, they are the same. We are a big extended family connected by marriage, but also wrestling.

[Asking about family members can be tricky. Some (even most!) people are very open about their families, but some public figures like Laye prefer some privacy. Laye did not want to talk very much about his immediate family. He wanted to keep our conversation about wrestling and I completely understand!]

How do you get around?:

All the time, I jog long distances at the beach. I usually just train, so I spend my time at the gym or working out at the beach.

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

[I usually see Laye in athletic wear, like joggers and tshirts, but like everyone else, he dresses to fit the occasion. See the photos for what Laye wears when he is "at work."]

What do you like to do in your free time?:

Everybody who knows me knows I train and rest only. I stay away from trouble because being out in the streets too much is bad for you. I focus on my job.
