Here are some things that I did:
- Taekwondo - This is a type of martial arts (fighting style) that comes from Korea, similar to China's kung fu and Japan's karate. As someone who didn't play any sports in grade school, this was really hard, but also really fun. I got to break a wooden board with my bare hands!
- Cooking class - I was able to cook traditional Korean temple food, which is the food that Buddhist monks would usually eat. I made kimchi rice and mugwort potato pancakes, and both were really good! Kimchi is a sour/spicy vegetable dish, and mugwort is a fresh-smelling leafy vegetable.
- Visiting the drone show - I've never seen a drone show before, and this show definitely exceeded all my expectations! Ginormous cartoon characters filled the night sky, but if you looked closely, you'd see that they're all made up of hundreds of little drones, all moving to create pictures to the rhythm of music.
- Volunteering - I've been so lucky to do a lot of volunteering here in Korea! I upcycled expired unused face masks left over from the COVID-19 pandemic into different products. I recorded myself reading children's books for the blind to help them learn English. I also taught English to elderly folks here in Korea! To be fair, some of them are already really good at English, but it's still really fun.
Finally, I wanted to talk about the people that I've met here at Yonsei and in Seoul.
