Hi from the Netherlands! My name is Casey, and I'm living and working in the city of Utrecht this year. I'm originally from Oklahoma, where I was born and went to college.

The Netherlands is a country on the coast of Western Europe. Almost one-third of the land is below sea level, so a series of windmills, pumps, and canals keeps the land from being covered in water. Because of this, the Netherlands is famous for its beautiful canals and windmills. Other famous things about the Netherlands are the cheese (the town of Gouda is located here!), the bicycles, and the tulips, which bloom in the spring. The weather here is similar to the weather in Seattle, Washington. It's cool, cloudy, and rainy most days, especially in the winter. We don't get too much extreme weather in the form of snow or heat.

A bit about myself: I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I studied math and biology at the University of Oklahoma. I spent my summers during college researching childhood cancer, and I'm taking a gap year before medical school to research childhood cancer in Utrecht. I'm here through a Fulbright grant, which is given by the US government to students so they can study, research, or teach English in various foreign countries. After this year, I'll move to Dallas, Texas for medical school.
