Integrating Into the Kiwi Culture

Kiwis are also very laid-back people. America tends to be fast-paced and always on time. In New Zealand, people show up late to most things, plans are never exact, and invitations ware often more of a “come if you feel like it” situation. This was hard for me to get used to because I have always been used to everything being set in stone.

Overall, the first week was rough, but once my roommates started moving in, it got a lot easier. They were also new to the country and so we were able to discover how to do day-to-day tasks together like riding the bus, using out debit cards, not tipping at restaurants, and even using the outlets. I am really thankful I had people there with me to navigate New Zealand together. Though it was scary and stressful at first, it ended up being so much fun. The Kiwi people are incredibly nice and sparked conversations with us everywhere we went. They were always willing to help us and show us new parts of New Zealand. They truly are some of the kindest people in the world.
