I grabbed one with a slice of Roman pizza topped with prosciutto, and the whole meal cost less than a Wendy’s Biggie Bag which of course is only 5$. Not bad for lunch in Rome.
The Caprese Salad is way simpler, just fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil and olive oil. It is super refreshing, especially when it’s hot out. Back home in Massachusetts, I would usually go for seafood in the summer, but here, even a basic tomato tastes like it came straight from someone’s garden.
And then, of course, there’s Gelato. The best way to describe it is ice cream’s cooler, creamier cousin. I usually get chocolate, pistachio, and hazelnut. It’s thicker than American ice cream, doesn’t melt as fast and you can walk around eating it at midnight without anyone judging you.
Honestly, every one of these meals made me feel like I was tasting Italy for the first time. The flavors were simple but real, and these experiences made me appreciate how much care Italians put into food. You don’t leave stuffed; you leave satisfied. It’s the kind of food that makes you slow down, enjoy the people you’re with, and actually notice what you’re eating.
